ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter organised "Felicitation Ceremony" on 26th Feb. 2012 in Bachpan Play School, Mangala Chowk, Bilaspur at 4.30 pm to felicitate Dr. Aradhana Trivedi, Dr. Devasree Chakravarti and Dr. Arti Singh Thakur who were conferred with Ph.D. Degree in English Literature by Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur (C.G.). The Chief Guest of the occasion was Dr. (Brig) A.K. Sharma, Chief Operations Officer, Apollo Hospitals, Bilaspur, the Guest of Honour was Dr. Gulshan Das, Retd. Professor of English and the session was chaired by Prof. C.B.S. Chowhan. The Special Guests on the occasion were the three Ph.Dians. ELT@I is honoured to felicitate them on their achievement.

Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha, President of ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter welcomed the gathering and congratulated the three ladies for their achievements. Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam informed what ELTAI is and asked the gathering to join hands with ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter to make Bilaspur the hub of English activities.

Dr. Gulshan Das praised ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter for conducting wonderful activities for the benefit of the students in specific and congratulated the three ladies for their hard work and efforts. She appreciated Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, National Vice President of ELTAI for bringing many people together on the platform of ELTAI.

Dr.(Brig) A.K. Sharma, COO of Apollo Hospitals, Bilaspur congratulated ELTAI for organising an event of this magnitude. He appreciated the activities of ELTAI Bilaspur chapter and announced that he would love to be the member of ELTAI and would be always available for the activities of ELTAI. He said that it is the need of the hour to promote English activities in Bilaspur.

Prof. C.B.S. Chowhan chairing the session spoke about the condition and status of education in Chhattisgarh and urged the teachers to take active part in promoting English among the learners and students.

Dr. Aradhana Trivedi, Dr. Devasree Chakravarti and Dr. Arti Singh Thakur thanked ELTAI Biaspur Chapter for felicitating them and honouring them. They spoke about their topics and expressed their gratitude to those who helped them in their great achievement.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by Dr. Pravin Kalvit, Mrs. Nirmala Jyothi, Mr. D.D. Sharan, Mr. G.N. Ananthan, Mrs. G.A. Neela, Mr. Ramaswamy, Mr. Milan Seth, Mrs. Shobha Seth, Mrs. Shrutika, Mr. Vikas Tyagi, Mr. Ashley Doughlus, Mr. G.A. Ashwini Kumar, Mrs. Vidhya, Shreya G. KOTA WORKSHOP

One Day Workshop on "FOE: Why Don't You Go?" was organised at DKP Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Kota, Dist. Bilaspur on 22nd February 2012 by ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter. The Resource Persons were Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, Dr. Devasree Chakravarti, Mr. Rakesh Digraskar, Mrs. Sumita Goel and Ms. Padma Mani.

The resource persons have dealt on various aspects of English Language Teaching to make the students aware of the fact that English is in air and everywhere.

The workshop was attended by nearly 125 students, faculty members and teachers from different schools.

ELTAI PENDRA ROAD CHAPTER:

It's a matter of great happiness that on 12th February 2012 another Chapter of ELT@I at Pendra Road was inaugurated. ELT@I Pendra Road Chapter came into existence in the presence of Mr. O.N. Jaiswal as the Chief Guest, Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, National Vice President of ELT@I as the Guest of Honour, Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha, President ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter, Mr. Rakesh Digraskar, Secretary, Mrs. Sumita Goel, Joint Secretary, Dr. Devasree Chakravarti and Mrs. Usha Iyengar, Event Managers of ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter as the Special Guests.

On the occasion, the students of Oxford Public School, Pendra Road have presented a beautiful welcome song about ELTAI which was prepared and composed by the school staff. In the beginning Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam has given a detailed description about ELTAI's vision, mission, activities and achievements. Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha delivered a talk on Check List for ESL Teachers. He has narrated many incidents and requested the teachers to be updated every time.
Mrs. Sumita Goel stressed on the need of commitment and devotion among the teachers of English and urged them to associate with ELTAI to undertake creative activity. Dr. Devasree Chakravarti gave a brief account of the activities of Bilaspur Chapter. Mrs. Usha Iyengar spoke about the importance of an association in the present scenario and requested the members to take active part in the activities of ELT@I. Mr. Rakesh Digraskar narrated his teaching experiences and shared his views with the assembled gathering. Mr. Prasanna Mukherjee of Pendra Road Chapter tendered the vote of thanks.
After the lunch the Office Bearers of Pendra Raod Chapter were nominated unanimously in the presence of Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam and Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha.
Long Live ELT@I

ELT@I Ujjain Chapter (M.P.) has been formed on 18th February 2012. Congrats to all the members especially Dr. Naveen Mehta, Ms. Meenal and Mr. Goutam.

ELTAI RAIPUR CHAPTER:

On 25th July 2011, the devoted, dedicated and energetic teachers and lovers of English have joined at the residence of Dr. Savita Singh, Professor of English, Govt. Science College, Raipur to form ELTAI's RAIPUR CHAPTER.

I am glad to inform each one of you that about 35 teachers were present and all of them agreed to form a chapter and have paid the membership fee on the spot.

Dr. Savita Singh was nominated as the Co-ordinator of the chapter with Dr. Tanjeen Khan, Mrs. Swati Kothari and Mr. Ramesh Chandra Kankariyal as Co-coordinators.

Prof. Raj Bharati, Prof. C.M. Mukherjee, Prof. Rabbani and various other retired teachers were present at the meeting and have assured their support to the Raipur Chapter.

Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, Co-ordinator, Bilaspur Chapter was present in the meeting and informed the members about ELTAI and its activities.

WORKSHOP OF BRITISH COUNCIL

On 10th December 2011, A Workshop for Teachers of English was conducted by the British Council in collaboration with ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter at Delhi Public Shcool, Bilaspur (C.G.)
336 teachers of English were registered and 286 took part in this mega event. There were 10 parallel sessions and 8 resource persons were sponsored by the British Council and 2 resource persons were from the local chapter. The inaugural session started at 9.50 am. Ms. Daphne Pawlec from British Council, Mr. Salil Ray, Principal, DPS, Bilaspur, Mr. Singh, A.O., D.P.S., Bilaspur and Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, Co-ordinator, ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter spoke about the event. At the outset Captain Salil Ray welcomed the guests and participants and thanked the British Council for choosing DPS for the mega event. Ms. Daphne spoke about the modalities of the workshop and informed the participants about their roles and responsibilities. Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam informed the participants about ELTAI and its activities and urged the teachers to become the members of ELTAI.
The first session of workshop started at 10.20. Each workshop was of 50 min. duration. After the first session there was a tea break for 15 min. After the tea break there were two sessions followed by lunch break. After the lunch break two more sessions continued.
The certificates were distributed in the respective rooms by the resource persons.
It was a great and cherishing experience for all the teachers.

Workshop for Students: (DKP Govt. Hr. Sec. School, KOTA)

Dr. Ghanshyam through power point presentation cleverly described the importance of English in the present scenario and skillfully motivated the students to understand that English is not at all a difficult subject. He narrated various anecdotes and examples to make the students understand the nuances related to English Language.

Mrs. Sumita Goel conducted some activities of English to make the students feel relaxed in the class of English. She dealt with soft skills in the session.

Dr. Devasree Chakravarti spoke on the importance of Communication Skills and told the students to communicate in English.

Mr. Rakesh Digraskar requested the teachers of English to change their teaching style and include activities in teaching and learning of English.

Ms. Padma Mani motivated the students to use English in their day today life.

The resource persons dealt on various aspects of English Language Teaching to make the students aware of the fact that English is in air and everywhere.

Workshop for Teachers of English:(G.H.S.S. Sarkanda,Bilaspur)

A workshop for the teachers of English was organised at Pt. Ram Dulare Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Sarkanda on 16th July by ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter.

About 30 teachers from various schools attended the workshop. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha, Teacher Trainer, SCERT, Raipur, who is the President of ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter.

Various group activities related to communication, speaking, thinking, memory and listening were conducted during the workshop. Mr. Kushwaha narrated the need of making English as easy as possible by involving ourselves into various creative activities. The teachers were divided into groups on the basis of their month of birth and were asked to do various group activities. These activites were summed up by the team leader at the end.

Speaking on this occassion Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, Co-ordinator of ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter told that ELTAI is a platform for all the teachers and lovers of English to interact with each other on various issues related to English learing and teaching. He has given a detailed information about ELTAI.

Mr. Anil Tiwari, Principal, Pt. Ram Dulare Govt. Hr. School, Sarkanda said that the teachers of English must take advantage of this kind of workshops and must learn new innovative methods of teaching English to their students. He congratulated ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter for organising workshop in the school and has given his consent to organise various activities in future too.

Mrs. Usha Chandra, Lecturer in English was instrumental in organising the workshop. Dr. Preran Hiradhar, Dr. Devasree Chakravarti and Ms. Shrutika Chandranahu have made this programme a grand success.

Workshop for Students: (ASEL English Coaching Centre, Bilaspur)

A Workshop on "Spelling", "Body Language" and " Communication Skills" was organised at ASEL Coaching Centre, Bilaspur on 9th July 2011 by ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter.

In the workshop on "Spelling" Dr. Devasree Chakravarti, Secretary of ELTAI, has told the students to concentrate on their listening ability and produce the word in the same manner. This habit will minimize the errors in spellings. She said that English is a hybrid language and many words in English are of different origin. She suggested the students to keep distance from the SMS and Chat language as it is killing our spellings. Various activities related to spelling were conducted during the workshop in which students have taken active participation.

The Second workshop on "Body Lanaguage" was conducted by Dr. Prerna Hiradhar, Head, Dept. of English, Delhi Public School, Bilaspur. She has told the students how body language helps in our betterment. Through power point presentation, she has described about the gesture, posture, eye contact and body movement. She has cited various examples through which the students have understood the shortcommings in their personality. Various activities related to Body Language were conducted during the workshop.

Both the workshops were liked by the students and the there was a great demand to organise this kind of events in future too.

Workshop for Students:

A Workshop on "How to overcome the Fear of English" was organised by ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter in association with ASEL Coaching, Bilaspur on 2nd July 2010. The workshop was conducted by Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, Professor of English and Co-ordinator of ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter. Speaking on this occasion Dr. Ghanshyam said that English is as easy as our mother tongue and in our daily life we speak numerous words of English. We even donot know the mother tongue for various words of English. These English words come so naturally to us that we donot even notice that we are speaking English. Dr. Ghanshyam has compared both English and Hindi and made the students to understand that English is easier than Hindi as Hindi comprises of 52 letters whereas English has just 26. English is the language of SVO whereas Hindi is the language of SOV.

There was huge gathering of the students in the workshop. Dr. Devasree Chakravarti, Mr. Manoj Verma, Mrs. Rajkumari and Saleem Khokhar were instrumental in organising this event.

A Report of the activities of ELT@IBilaspur Chapter

From 24^th January2010 to 25^thFebruary 2012

ELTAIBilaspur Chapter rejuvenated on 24^th January 2010 after a gap ofmany years. The confluence of teachers representing different background andthe lovers of English has paved the way to hold academic discussions in themeetings. ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter wanted a platform to stand on and conductvarious activities related to teacher development. ASEL English Coaching Centrejoined hands with ELTAI to promote the aims and objectives of ELTAI in theregion. ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter is a platform for the teachers of English of alllevels irrespective of their status and institution to uplift the existingstandard of English in Chhattisgarh. In this highly competitive and globalizedworld it becomes necessary for a teacher to be updated all the time to meet thedemands of the society. ELTAI, Bilaspur Chapter organizes monthly meetings todiscuss various problems related to teaching and learning of English languageand literature. In the meetings members are motivated to take up variousburning issues related to teaching and learning of English language throughpower point presentations. ELTAI Bilaspur Chapter is committed to link, developand support English language teaching professionals in the area. The chapter isdevoted towards the betterment of English teachers and would like to make theminnovative and instrumental in bringing up the change in the mode oftraditional teaching.

Ø ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter is active enough to plan for the academicactivities in the monthly meeting. Members of the chapter have presentedpapers/power point presentations on various topics related to English LanguageTeaching and Learning.

Ø Workshop on Creative Writingand Learning English through Gameswas conducted by Mr. ShivajiKushwaha.

Ø On 2^nd May 2010 ELT@I BilaspurChapter felicitated Dr. Meeta Ajay Khanna, Dr. Prerna Hiradhar and Dr. RajRekha Singh, the members of ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter who have been awarded Ph.D.degrees in English by Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur.

Ø The Newsletter of the Chapter was released byProf. C.B.S. Chowhan, Patron of the Bilaspur Chapter on 2^nd May2010.

Ø ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter in association with ASEL EnglishCoaching Centre, Bilaspur has organized OneDay Workshop on 11^th July 2011 for the students of ASEL onPersonality Development, Spellings and Pronunciation. It was a grand successand has boosted the morale of the chapter.

Ø One DayWorkshop for the teachers of English was conducted at Pt. Ram Dulare Hr.Sec. School, Sarkanda, Bilaspur on 23^rd July 2011. Mr. ShivajiKushwaha and Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam have taken up various issues related tolanguage teaching and learning as a resource persons. Activity based learningwas promoted among the teachers. About 50 teachers took part in the workshop.

Ø Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha, Mrs. Neeta Johar and Dr.G.A. Ghanshyam have actively participated in the ELT@I Chapter Leadership Development Workshop organized by BritishCouncil in collaboration with ELT@I at New Delhi on 16-17 April 2010. BilaspurChapter has won prize in Quiz Competition.

Ø One DayWorkshop on Body Language, Communication Skills and Personality Developmentwas conducted by ELT@I in association with Vanvasi Vikas Samiti, Bilaspur atSaraswati Shishu Mandir, Bilaspur on 12^th September 2011 for SC andST students. This full day workshop was one of its kinds in terms of quality,time management, organization and betterment of the students. 100 students ofunder graduate and post graduate classes have actively participated in thisworkshop. Mr. Vivek Joglekar, Mrs. Shubhda Jogelkar, Dr. Prerna Hiradhar, Dr.Devasree Chakravarti and Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam were the resource persons. This workshop was sponsored by Prof.C.B.S. Chauhan, Mr. Harish Kedia, and Mr. Singh of LG Service Centre, Bilaspur.

Ø BritishCouncil in association with ELT@Ihas planned to organize series of workshop for Teachers of English throughoutthe country. They have selected 12 different two tier/three tier cities toconduct the programme. Moved by the activities of ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter, themanagement of ELT@I decided to organize one day workshop at Bilaspur. DelhiPublic School, Bilaspur was selected as the venue by the British Council. 10thDecember 2011 was the historic day in the history of ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter toorganize this mega event with nearly 300 teachers. A full day workshop on EnglishTeaching Techniques was conducted by the experts of British Council. Ms.Daphney Pawlec, Ms. Poonam from British Council, Capt. S. Ray, the Principal ofDPS, Dr. Prerna Hiradhar, HOD, English of DPS, Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha, Presidentof ELT@I and Dr. Devasree Chakravarti, Secretary ELT@I were actively involvedin making this event historic and successful. ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter salutesthe teachers who have actively participated in the workshop. This was the onlyworkshop organized in the Hindi speaking states of India.

Ø ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter was instrumental inorganizing Two Day National Conference at Govt. M.L.S. College, Seeapt on 18^thand 19^th January 2012 on the theme “Colonial to Global: ChangingPerspectives of English.” Our esteemed members have been given importantresponsibilities to share in the conference. Dr. Devasree Chakravarti compeeredthe Inaugural and Valedictory sessions, Mr. Shivaji Kushwaha Co-ordinated Dr.A.K. Khare Memorial Lecture and Dr. Arti Singh Thakur, Dr. ShrabaniChakravarty, Dr. Meeta Ajay, Khanna, Mrs. Kamaljeet Sinha, Mr. Rakesh Digraskarand Ms. Padma Mani were the active participants. ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter hasdecided to organize two memorial lectures every year in the memory of Dr. A.K.Khare and Dr. Nirmaljeet Oberoi.

Ø One DaySeminar on “Communication Skills: A Gateway to the Global World” wasorganized by Dr. C.V. Raman University, Kota, Bilaspur on 3^rdFebruary 2012 in collaboration with ELT@I Bilaspur Chapter. Mr. ShivajiKushwaha, Dr. Prerna Hiradhar and Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam were the resource persons.It is a matter of great pride and happiness that ELT@I is associated withprestigious institutions to bring awareness among the teachers and learners ofEnglish to make Chhattisgarh in general and Bilaspur in specific the hub of ELTactivities.

Dr. Fariha Alam Siddiqui, SDM, Kota was the Chief Guest. Dr.G.A. Ghanshyam, Dr. Devasree Chakravarti, Mr. Rakesh Digraskar, Mrs. SumitaGoel and Dr. Anil Mushriff were the resource persons. Nearly 150 students andteachers of different schools have actively participated in the workshop.

Ø Dr. G.A. Ghanshyam, Convenor, ELT@I, BilaspurChapter is always on his toes to promote and organize variousevents/workshops/lectures/discussions related to the development of EnglishLanguage. He with his laptop, LCD Projector and Waistband Amplifier hasconducted many workshops in the schools of rural areas of Bilaspur like Seepat,Pandhi, Bijor, Birkona, Takhatpur, Ratanpur, Belha and Baloda on the topic “WhyEnglish”.

Onthe topic “Colonial to Global: Changing Perspectives of English” Dr. Ghanshyamhas conducted workshops in Govt. Engineering College, Bilaspur, Govt. Girls’Polytechnic College, Bilaspur, J.K.
